Built around the project

From categories to projects
Traditional DIY stores are organised by product category, forcing customers to reassemble their project across the whole floor. For Baucenter we reversed the logic: the layout is structured around project-based zones — roofing, structural timber, drywall, electrical, plumbing and outdoor construction. Trade customers navigate faster because the store mirrors how they actually work; serious DIY shoppers find everything for their job in one place. The zoning became the backbone for routing, adjacencies and stock allocation.

Warehouse efficiency, showroom logic
The concept combines two formats that rarely coexist: the operational efficiency of a warehouse and the solution-driven approach of a showroom. High ceilings, exposed structures and direct bulk stock accessibility keep the store efficient to run and credible for professionals, while curated project displays within each zone translate raw materials into finished solutions. Strong wayfinding and clear sightlines tie the two together, so orientation works at warehouse scale.

Service as part of the routing
Service points are integrated into the zones rather than centralised at a desk — advice is available where the decision is made. Combined with the project displays, this moves customers naturally from inspiration to specification to execution, reinforcing Baucenter's expertise and measurably increasing basket size. The detailing throughout stays industrial but refined: professional-grade in look, feel and function.
