The primary care initative
General practice care is a cornerstone of our healthcare system
but that foundation is under pressure. Demand for care is rising, the population is ageing, and the workload within practices continues to grow. As a result, many practices face a lack of space, while suitable and affordable locations are increasingly difficult to find. Investment in new construction or renovation often proves financially unfeasible, especially for smaller partnerships or solo practices. At the same time, structural support is limited. Municipalities offer little assistance, and general practitioners rarely have the time or resources to navigate this complex process on their own.
A New Interior for Alviva General Practice
For Alviva General Practice in Alphen aan den Rijn, we developed a distinctive practice concept. Through close collaboration between the general practitioner, the building owner, interior builders, and designers, we created a contemporary, functional, and cost-effective healthcare environment. The practice has been thoughtfully designed to maximize efficiency while remaining budget-conscious. Every aspect of the space is tailored to support the evolving role of the general practitioner and to meet the changing needs and expectations of today's patients.

Nature as the Unifying Theme
We set out to create a warm and welcoming environment where everyone feels at ease. Just as every element in nature has its own place and purpose, the design embraces diversity and connection. This inspired us to use the natural landscape of Alphen aan den Rijn as the unifying theme throughout the practice. A palette of natural colours creates a sense of calm and trust, while organic shapes and materials give the interior a contemporary yet approachable character. Each consultation room has its own name and colour, inspired by nearby natural areas such as Bentwoud and the Rietveldsepad. These landscapes were photographed by a local photographer and printed on textile, bringing the beauty of the surrounding nature directly into the treatment rooms.
